Spotted: an innovative potatoe chip bag that doesn't make any noise and avoids your hands to grease thanks to its packaging opening into a bowl. Plus they're healthier than most of the brands on the market since they're not fried but dried and seasoned. Finally!

An innovation by Icelandic brand Örflögur. Hey guys, could you please design the same for pop-corn in cinemas? It's a real plague!

For their second collection though, I'm questionning the choice of a symbol such as a take-away cup for the packaging of one of their perfumes...even if the cup must be environment-friendly in the fabric and process. Still, remains the environment-killer symbol of the take-away cup!

A French military worker has recently launched a petition against overpacking. For a French military worker, a French military organization: a website, a Facebook page, translated in every language of the European Union, an army of representatives in each country, a day against overpacking...A military strategy that results into a success: already 138000 members against overpacking! Final objective is to present the petition to the European Parliament and try to have a law on packaging.

Good luck!

Yes good luck, since such an initiative leads us to wonder about the rules governing packaging today. To take the same example than that French military worker, why in some countries yoghurts are packed in a 1L bottle, with a unique packaging then and in others, each yoghurt is packed in individual portions and stuck together by a surrounding packaging? Why, oh, why? In France, not because the surrounding packaging is necessary, but just because it enables retailers to put pressure on the consumer and oblige him/her to buy the whole package of yogurts and not the right number you might need!

So, in an area where environment has become a key issue, what are the governments and companies waiting for to rethink the way packaging has been used so far? Maybe the end of lobbying?

More information about the petition here: www.overpacking.eu

Source: DesignFax n°712, 31/05/2010

I won't break the news by saying a supermarket is a real cave of wonders for anyone working in branding! Personally speaking, I like to walk around in a supermarket to stay updated with the brands. To the despair of my husband!! If only it was only the supermarkets...

So back in France, I discovered the new packaging range of the own labelled Carrefour products. Every of you must know Carrefour, one of the top retailers in the world. So here (right picture) is the new range of Carrefour OBL products: a white, epure with some spots of colours. New packaging codes that break the codes of the OBL packagings and that even breaks the code of products you can find on the shelves of a supermarket. An idea of freshness, health and a way to help the client find their beloved products really quickly they say .

But to me, it's not a new concept at all! Would I dare to say Carrefour is a follower? I could do, yes. For one year before, my former branding agency Brandimage Desgrippes & Laga did that exercise for Auchan: redesigning the OBL packaging to help the client find their products in the shelves at first glance and help them understand what the product is made of. The result (left picture): a white, epure with some spots of flashy colours packaging!

Ok, I already hear you say: there are slight differences like the choice of colours, flashy ones for Auchan, faded ones for Carrefour; a more straight-to-the point expression for Auchan, a more refined tone for Carrefour; etc etc.

But still, I can't help thinking that for one risk-taker, there are hundreds of followers! Even in our "creative" industry...

Simply Help. The name is the first sign of the key feature of the brand personnality: simplicity for efficiency.

Where to begin with? There's so much to say, every point of the Help remedies packagings is a bright answer! Here's a list:
1/ an efficient way of naming the products: a what's-the-problem and here's-the-answer range. Example: I've cut myself product, 12 white bandages!
2/ products contained in the box are printed in relief on the box. Even the blind people can choose the relevant product easily
3/ a packaging that is easily recognizable on shelves, helping you avoiding loosing time in a pharmacy
4/ a notice, more than simple! It looks a bit like the Apple ones: don't expect to find a 4 page bible paper notice written in character 6. The explanations on how to use the product are concentrated in a few lines, with simple words and actions to do. Bonus: a bit of humour in the notice. Might be a risky using such a style when it deals with health.

So, have you become a fan too?

Source:www.trendsnow.net / www.graphic-statement.com
